Old Blue Moon Orchard

Early in 2021, O'Hara Commons was approached by a property owner with a unique problem: a five acre, mixed fruit tree orchard that desperately needed revitalization.

We were able to enter an agreement and take on the management of this gem of a local food resource. With close to 500 trees, there are cherries, plums, pears and apples. In 2022, we will be adding peaches, apricots and nectarines. The 'A' grade fruit will be sold on the online grocery storefront, the funds will support a program manager. The 'B' grade fruit will be donated to the community through O'Hara's Gleaning Program. The goal is to have the Old Blue Moon Orchard be a sustainable program; feeding our community and preserving local agricultural lands.

The orchard will also be utilized as a living education program (small orchard management, pruning & irrigation techniques, harvesting practices, organic pest control, etc.) and a vibrant center of activity for volunteer opportunities.
