Gardner Family Pumpkin Pie Recipe

Thank you to Cyndy Gardner for introducing me to her family recipe, and more so for allowing me to share it with others.

Bake Whole Pumpkin:

Preheat oven to 250 F

Place pumpkin on lower rack. Pierce to allow steam to escape.

Medium pumpkin: about 2 hours

Large pumpkin: about 3 hours

Preheat oven to 350 F


2 cups cooked pumpkin

3/4 cup white sugar

1/4 cup dark brown sugar

1 tablespoon flour

1 egg (gently beaten)

1/4 teaspoon each: cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger

1/3 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

Add to pie crust (par-baked if you are worried about soggy bottom).

We recommend Kate McDermott's One Cup Out recipe with half butter, half leaf lard.

Bake at 350 F for one hour or until set.
