It was not until the beginning of the 20th century that commercial flowers became affordable and readily available to the general public. As this availability grew, so did interest in flower arranging and the use of floral designs in homes and public buildings. As the garden club movement gained momentum in the 1930's, three distinct types of designs evolved within the American Traditional Design Style. One of these, the horizontal line design, is often adapted as a table centerpiece, as its low profile does not interfere with across-the-table eye-contact and conversation.

On December 9th, Nina Eadie will lead a workshop on adapting this type of floral design for a Christmas centerpiece. Nina is a Montana Master Gardener and past president of the Stevensville Garden Club. She is also Superintendent of the Floral Department in the Ravalli County Fair.

All materials will be provided, and you will have a selection of colors for crafting your centerpiece. Participants should bring gloves and garden clippers. Protective eye wear is also recommended.
